Fiat isi consolideaza renumele in materie de motoare revolutionare cu un nou propulsor pe benzina care va reusi sa imbunatateasca performantele masinilor din grup si va reduce in acelasi timp consumul de combustibil. Inginerii italieni, aceiasi care au creat si MultiJet, unul dintre cele mai performante motoare diesel, au obtinut aceste performante prin faptul ca au reusit sa puna la punct un sistem avansat de admisie a aerului. Detaliile tehnice releva faptul ca acest sistem permite dozarea amestecului aer - benzina dupa scenarii (harti) diverse, in functie de solicitarile impuse de sofer, actionand in diferite momente ca un motor de capacitati diferite. Atunci cand necesarul de carburant este redus (la pornire, in trafic aglomerat, la viteze reduse etc.) supapele sunt determinate sa permita intrarea unor cantitati mici de aer si implicit benzina, astfel minimizand arderea si reducand consumul. La solicitarile maxime (acceleratii, viteze mari), se ating performantele de top ale motorului. Reducerea de consum este de aproximativ 25%, in timp ce cuplul maxim este imbunatatit cu 15%, iar puterea, cu 10%. Reprezentantii Fiat sustin ca noua tehnologie va putea fi introdusa pe viitor la motoarele diesel, care ar urma sa raporteze o reducere a consumului de pana la 40%.

Noua tehnologie MultiAir va fi disponibila pe Alfa Romeo Giulietta, pe motorizarea de 1.4, motor ce va atinge o putere maxima de 170 cp. Noul model va fi lansat anul viitor, asa ca asteptam cu nerabdare sa vedem fiabilitatea noului tip de motor.
